Play Scheme

Funded by Bring it on Brum via Birmingham City Council and Street Games

Summer of Something 2025

Our Playschemes, funded by Bring it on Brum via Street Games, run during each school holiday. Easter, Summer, and Winter.

Playschemes

Our Playschemes offer weekly blocks for between 75-100 children per week, per location, including up to 10 places for children with moderate SEND needs funded. We wanted to use our scheme as an opportunity to work with children in our area to help build their confidence, extend positive social networks, improve their wellbeing, reduce anti-social behaviour, and develop skills and goals to become forward looking young people.

We provide 2 meals (breakfast and a hot lunch) a day for hundreds of children a year. Our sessional staff teams are mainly recruited from school’s support staff, so we have an experienced core team supported by other recruits and volunteers.

Activities include arts & crafts, sports, healthy food preparation and cooking classes, smoothie making, environmental workshops, outdoor and indoor play, and bouncy castles.

We also recruit specialist guests to come in to run workshops. The children have taken part in many exciting sessions such as local heritage walks, clay making, music workshops, kickboxing classes, magic shows and more!

We also provide food hampers to our most vulnerable families.

We thank all of the schools who allow us to use their premises to provide these vital activity and food projects, including Welford, Cherry Orchard, St Michaels, Rookery School, Hamstead Hall, St. Clare’s, St. Francis, and Laurel Road Community Sports Centre.
